When it comes to hospitals and healthcare the areas where technology can be implemented can feel endless. As a CIO, it can be a challenging job understanding where to best focus time and efforts to create the best possible experience for their patients.

In this discussion, Jonathan Goldberg is the CIO of Arkansas Children’s Hospital joined us to discuss the state of technology and healthcare, what his hospital is doing to make sure they’re constantly enhancing the patient experience, without incorporating too much technology, and some of the challenges they face when trying to offer healthcare, not just at a hospital level, but a state-wide level.

About Jonathan Goldberg:

Jonathan (Jon) Goldberg has over 25 years of health care leadership experience spanning health systems, technology start-up, and consulting. Since 2015, Jon has served as senior vice president and chief information officer for the Arkansas Children’s system, where he is responsible for technology, telecommunications, health technology management, telemedicine, and innovation. He recently oversaw a transformative set of initiatives to redefine how care is provided to children in the state through the use of technology and analytics.    

Jon’s career began at the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation, the country’s largest public health system, followed by roles at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Lenox Hill Hospital, also of New York. He has served as a consultant providing strategic advisory services to hospitals and was one of the first employees of Omnicell, a health care technology startup based in Palo Alto, CA.

Prior to Arkansas Children’s, Jonathan served since 2004 as vice president and chief information officer for Albany, New York-based St. Peter’s Health Partners, the largest health system in the Upstate New York region.

Jon is a founder and former board member of Hixny, a health information exchange in New York. He holds certifications with the College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).  A major health information systems thought leader, he is a frequent presenter and industry commentator on current topics related to information technology in health care. He is a 2006 recipient of the Albany Business Review “40 under 40” award.

Jon holds a BA in Public Administration from the State University of New York at Albany and a Master’s degree in Health Administration from Long Island University.
